IDRIS BLAC “WHO HE IS, WHO HE WAS AND WHO HE’S BECOMING'.”

Mustafa Wole Idris (idris Blac) Media Composer - Score Producer - Sound Designer - Audio Director

Welcome. My name is Idris Blac, Sonic Alchemist, Storyteller, Visionary, and founder of Blac Audio. This site isn’t just a portfolio. It’s a portal into my world, where music, memory, and meaning converge. A space to share who I am, where I’ve come from, and what continues to drive me forward. If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the journey.

Who He Was: The Early Frequencies

I was born and raised in London, a city constantly in dialogue with itself. Beautiful and brutal, quiet and chaotic. My first language was listening. I grew up attuned to subtle emotional shifts, to how a room could hum with unspoken feeling, to the rhythm of life beneath the noise.

Our home held many layers. My father’s wisdom was an anchor. My mother’s gentleness brought colour to our lives. Music wasn’t background, it was essence. It played during moments of joy and moments of pain. It was a spiritual thread, something passed down, not just played aloud.

The Yoruba language played a central role in my early sonic development, not just for its words, but for its tone, its ancestry, its weight. Yoruba is a tonal language, where a single shift in pitch can transform a word’s entire meaning. That taught me to respect sound, not just for how it’s heard, but for how it holds energy. It showed me that sound is a living thing, one that carries spirit and memory. That early insight continues to guide every note I shape.

I didn’t start with theory. I started with instinct. I didn’t begin by learning how to make music; I began by feeling it, by listening until something revealed itself.

Who He Is: The Now of Sound

Today, I work across the fields of music composition, sound design, production sound, and audio direction for film, television, gaming, and immersive media. But more than job titles, what I truly do is sculpt emotional experience through sound.

I founded Blac Audio to be more than just a studio. It is a sanctuary for sonic truth. Every project I take on is treated with the same respect as ritual. I do not simply deliver audio. I craft worlds, design emotion, and hold space through frequency, silence, and resonance.

My process is deliberate, detailed, and deeply rooted. While I may appear experimental, everything I do is underpinned by a meticulous understanding of musical history. I’m a musicologist, a sonic historian, someone who has studied the full arc of music, from its earliest written notations, through the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras, to the electronic and AI-assisted landscapes of today.

I study structure as much as spirit. I have an orchestral ear. I know the physics of sound as well as its metaphysical weight. My work is not only expressive, it is grounded in a full-spectrum understanding of instrumentation, orchestration, mythology, and extensive game theory. This allows me to build sonic identities that feel ancient and futuristic all at once.

Whether I am capturing dialogue on location, composing an orchestral score, designing soundscapes for narrative games, or building poetic audio systems for virtual environments, I bring all of myself to the work. History, heart, heritage, precision, intuition.

What I Believe: The Ethos That Grounds It All

We are living in an era where artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how creative work is made. But I remain grounded in a clear and unwavering ethos:

AI may assist my process, but it will never generate my sound.

I believe that music and sound must come from human breath, lived memory, and emotional complexity. AI can sort, suggest, even streamline workflow, but it cannot ache, it cannot love, it cannot whisper from the heart of experience.

Every composition I release, every sound design I build, and every voice that speaks through my work belongs to a real person. Every frequency I craft is made with intention.

The soul of sound is sacred. I am here to protect that soul.

Who He’s Becoming: A Future in Frequency

I do not believe in fixed identities. I believe in movement, in becoming. Right now, I am deepening. Expanding. Stepping more fully into the next iteration of my creative life.

I am currently developing a platform that supports real composers, sound designers, and voice artists, a space where filmmakers and storytellers can access authentic scores, crafted sound design, and human voiceovers, all created by working professionals. No synthetic voices. No generative sound. Only the raw, emotional textures that come from real people with real stories.

The platform will use AI only in the background, as a discovery tool, never as the creator. It will honour the work of artists, not replace them. It will help clients find what they need faster, while keeping the spirit of the craft intact.

At the same time, I am composing new pieces rooted in mythology, psychology, and speculative futures. I am scoring films that challenge form and genre. I am experimenting with poetic voiceover and binaural environments. I am also writing reflections on history, ancestry, sound, culture, and spirit.

My goal is not to arrive. It is to become.

This Space: Yours, Mine, Ours

This site is more than a portfolio. It is an archive, a testimony, and a reflection of where I am and what I’m building. A space to share new work, yes, but also thoughts, process, questions, and the quiet moments between projects.

You’ll also find me on Instagram (@idrisblac), where this article will live as a pinned carousel, shared alongside personal imagery and process stills. I’ll be publishing more through YouTube, LinkedIn, and Substack, each space offering its own lens into my sonic world.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you.
For your attention.
For your openness.
For your presence.

I am still becoming. And there is much more to come.

Warmest,
Idris Blac
